Kings Gameday: Red Dawn 2

Image
LA Kings vs. Washington Bolsheviks 7:30 PST, Fox Sports West Tonight is Russian Heritage Night at Staples Center, which is a great idea because it gets all of them in one spot so we can capture them. I stopped paying attention to politics in 1989, so I don't know too much, but I do know that commies are bad and I hate them. They tried to trick me with that whole Glasnost thing, but I know what's up: Russians, having failed to take over the world economically, are now trying to take over through hockey. They've infiltrated our nation's capital, led by their furry leader, Alex Ovechkin. His comrades Alex Semin (hehe) and Sergei Fedorov are probably "out" tonight, but I'm pretty sure it's all a ruse for some sort of un-American activity.* Standing in their way? The good, solid, American squad of Los Angeles Kings, led by Drew Doughty, Anze Kopitar and Erik Ersberg. The Kings are the only thing standing in the way of a Russian invasion, and I...

Let's Get To Work!

Ok, so some of us are still hanging our head about Dan Ellis stealing away our pizza goal last night. But sometimes, you just gotta put the past behind you, especially when there's work to be done. Work like putting Devin Setoguchi in the All-Star game. If this was a presidential campaign, I'd nominate Ryane Clowe as his running mate, but the balloting doesn't work that way. Voting has started NOW, so go here and start stuffing those ballot boxes . Remember, Vote Seto/Gooch/Whatever nickname you want to call him in 2009!

The Real Election

Well, now that that whole Presidential Something-or-Other is over with, we should get to the election that really matters: the 2009 NHL All-Star Game. And yes, while Patrick Marleau, Evgeni Nabokov, and Joe Thornton are on the ballot, there's one fellow who I think is showing All-Star chops early on. Did you have an Obama 08 or McCain Country First sticker on your car? It's time to throw those out because here's the official start of Vote Setoguchi 09 . It's going to have to be a write-in vote, but thanks to the magic of the inter-tubes and text messaging, we can manipulate, erm, boost the results to give us all the Chomp We Need. After all, it's Sharks Territory First. Voting begins November 12th. [ image courtesy of commenter Jonny W] [image modified courtesy of commenter Will]

BoC Gameday- Kings/Ducks- Those Deck Chairs Need Moving

Image
Los Angeles Kings (3-6-1) vs. Anaheim Ducks (7-5-1) 7:30 PST, Fox Sports West Two games ago, the Kings were sitting at 3-4-1 and had just put in a workmanlike effort against the Detroit Red Wings. The Kings had been competitive in every game but the first one and were especially effective in rotating three scoring lines. Then coach Terry Murray decided to reunite the O'Sullivan-Kopitar-Brown line from last season. Okay, fine, our third line sucks now but that line was good last year so maybe it'll work. The result? 4-0 loss. " Oscar, please stop hugging me." Terry Murray then decided that maybe the problem was the Frolov-Handzus connection and moved Alex Frolov to Jarret Stoll's line. Oh, and he also gave up on the O'Sullivan-Kopitar-Brown line after one game and moved O'Sullivan to Frolov's spot with Michal Handzus. The result? A 3-2 loss, during which Terry Murray decided Patrick O'Sullivan wasn't doing anything and moved him down to th...

When blogs battle, everyone wins

Battle of California (0-0-0) vs. Behind the Jersey (0-0-0) Round One -- Single Elimination I really should have been promoting this semi-event more (I've had it in the sidebar for a few weeks, I think) , but I guess BoC was one of the last entries in the field. Anyhoo, the NHL Arena messageboards are running an online Battle of the Blogosphere, where 128 blogs are stacked head-to-head in an NCAA-style vote-off for a champion. You can read about it here . Before I link to the list of match-ups, though, I do want to mention a few things, and first is a quick profile of why you should vote for BoC's first round adversary, Behind the Jersey . If you're unfamiliar with the site, Christy Hammond is a Red Wings blogger, and if information is your game, she's all over it. Take a scan of her posts, and check out her profile page , and you'll see that she loves her Wings pretty dearly. And while I'm a guy who holds plenty of hate for Wings fans, that's never an iss...
